Student Life
As you enter the gates of The Piney Woods School, you encounter only a portion of our nearly 2,000-acre campus, located in the heart of Mississippi’s pine belt, and just 20 miles from the state capital. This living/learning environment includes a 200-acre demonstration farm, turquoise lakes, emerald green forests rife with wildlife, a rock garden amphitheater, the historic original log cabin schoolhouse, and a museum that documents the school’s revolutionary journey.
Welcome! You have just become a part of a dynamic learning community, where we celebrate your individuality and encourage your creativity. We are a community dedicated to building tomorrow’s leaders by helping you become the best possible you. So just take a minute and picture yourself here.
A transformative education that engages the head, heart, and hands does not begin or end at the classroom door. Our campus is our classroom. It infuses every aspect of student life at The Piney Woods School. Piney Woods has been educating the whole child in a nurturing positive environment for over a century! What this means for you is that you are expected to take charge of your own development as never before. Student life at Piney Woods requires you to take on challenging responsibilities that will empower you to create the life you desire. But, as in life, you will not do this alone. A committed faculty and staff will guide and encourage you throughout your journey.
Play basketball or volleyball on one of our championship teams. Athletic opportunities include cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, archery, track, cross country, track and field, tennis, choral music, and swimming and, you will have the opportunity to eat well here. In and out of season, we serve our students 3 meals daily and work to incorporate fresh produce from our demonstration farm, whenever possible.
Our students come with diverse backgrounds and experiences, hailing from more than 20 states and foreign jurisdictions, from across the nation, the continent of Africa, and the Caribbean. Living here, however, challenges all of us to develop a common thread: a love of learning, a driving ambition, and a commitment to positively change the world. As you graduate and pursue post-secondary learning opportunities, you realize that your journey has just begun.
