The Magnolia Bar Association held a mock trial competition in Jackson, Mississippi. There were five schools competing and six teams in total.
The members of Piney Woods had two teams in the competition. On Friday, December 7, 2018, there were two trials. The person portraying the defendant and plaintiff was predetermined.
Piney Woods completed one trial in the morning and the other in afternoon. After that the teams awaited their fate, as the judges deliberated, prior to announcing the two finalists that would compete the next day.
Despite Piney Woods not making the finals, they performed beautifully during trials. The PWS coaches, Mrs. Francine Jones and Judge Winston Kidd, were very proud of the teams because of their performances and the hard work they put into practice.
It’s not always about winning for the team, besides there’s always next year!
Although our team did not prevail, PWS fourth year student, Jeremiah Morris Horace Of Chicago, Illinois, was subsequently awarded a college scholarship by the bar association for his stellar mock trial performance.
